Structural Bodywork
Realize your body's potential!

Structural bodywork is not so much a separate modality as an integrative approach designed to balance and realign your body's structure and allow you the greatest efficiency and freedom of movement. The client and therapist work together over the course of several sessions to explore health goals and needs. Using all of the techniques below, structural bodywork targets areas of fascial restriction, postural imbalance and past injury to address the root causes of pain or tension.

Deep Massage
Release deeply held tension and postural imbalance.

Deep massage uses sustained pressure and slow, focused strokes to affect the connective tissue (fascia) and deep layers of muscle which define posture and contribute to chronic pain. As the body responds to daily patterns of activity, whether sitting in front of a computer, carrying a backpack or attending a dance class, it lays down fascia to better support itself in those postures and reduce energy expenditure, even if the postures are undesirable or cause pain. Relaxing the muscles alone provides temporary relief, but without work on the surrounding fascia, the body is unable to maintain a balanced posture, and the tension returns. The effects of this work, therefore, can be profound and long-lasting, bringing postural shifts and a deep energetic awareness to the whole body.
Note: Deep massage derives from similar modalities such as deep tissue, myofascial release and Rolfing, but allows for a gentler, individual approach. Since no oils are used, the quality of contact is felt differently, but pressure is a matter of individual preference: the technique need not be painful.

Swedish Massage
Relax, rejuvenate and energize!

Swedish massage is the most commonly practiced form of therapeutic massage. It uses long, gliding strokes, kneading, friction, and percussion to increase circulation and induce relaxation. In addition to the immediate effects, it boosts the immune system, improves sleep and concentration, relieves soreness and fatigue, and reduces overall stress.

Shiatsu
Experience the deep relaxation and energetic balance of this Japanese art.

Shiatsu was developed in Japan as a product of thousands of years of Chinese medical philosophy. Using stretches and stimulation of pressure points, the practitioner follows the meridians (pathways of energy), encouraging balanced energy flow while releasing tension and increasing mobility. Shiatsu may be integrated into a table session, but is best practiced on a padded ground surface with the client fully clothed.

Lymphatic Drainage - NEW!
Detoxify and boost immunity.

Lymphatic Drainage is an light manual technique which helps to recirculate body fluids, stimulate the immune system, and promote relaxation and balance in the autonomic nervous system. It targets the body's fluids, and in particular the lymphatic system, which collects and filters intracellular wastes too large to reenter the blood stream directly, including proteins, lipids, dead cells, and bacteria or viruses. It helps in the reduction of swelling (edemas) and regeneration of tissues (burns and scarring) as well as reducing symptoms of fibromylagia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, allergies, acne, and other conditions. Please note: while lymphatic drainage is extremely light, detox reactions may be dramatic. It is important to drink plenty of fluids before and after a session. In order to minimize potential reactions, the first few sessions may be quite brief and may be added onto a regular massage session.

Sports Massage
Athlete or not, we all put repetitive strain on our bodies!

Sports Massage is designed to increase athletic performance and deal with the effects of repetitive muscle use, whether you're running, working on construction, or typing at a keyboard. All of these activities can lead to uneven muscular development, fatigue, strain or injuries. Sports massage targets specific muscle groups involved in these habitual activities. As part of athletic training, massage increases the lifetime of the athlete by increasing circulation and flexibility, reducing the chance of injury, and promoting recovery and mobile scar tissue in the case of injury.

Hot Stone Massage
Enjoy the soothing, healing effects of this popular spa treatment.

Hot Stone Massage is an ancient practice which has lately taken the massage world by storm - and with good reason! The heat of these smooth basalt stones penetrates the muscles, easing tension and increasing circulation, all before the area is massaged. This is a great option during the cold winter months!

Chair Massage
I am available for events, parties or your office!

Chair massage combines elements of Shiatsu, Swedish and Deep massage to provide a convenient, affordable onsite massage to fully clothed recipients. A typical chair massage lasts between 15-30 minutes and focuses on the back, neck and arms, releasing tension and energizing the mind. It's a great break in your day, an attractive addition to your party or festival, or a way to show your appreciation for employees or customers.
